Weston, Florida provides the rare experience of a small town set in the midst of an immense metropolitan area. This lush, planned community in southwestern Broward County, with about 65,000 residents, became a city in 1996 but really goes back to the 1950s. What began as an Arvida development is today a very livable community with a large concentration of high earners.

Weston Town Center, an outdoor venue, is central Weston’s main shopping, dining and nightlife destination. Weston’s dining scene, like Weston real estate itself, is diverse, with great eats in every price category. The City of Weston’s Parks & Recreation Department manages 14 parks distributed throughout the town, each with its own amenities. A Community Center offers year-round enrichment classes and programming for all ages and interests, and a family YMCA resides within the City’s Regional Park, the city’s largest. Regional Park’s 102 acres offer picnic shelters with grills, an exercise trail with 8,000 linear feet, baseball/softball fields, football/soccer fields, basketball courts, full-size roller hockey rinks, a pair of playgrounds, sand volleyball courts and more. Weston is also a great community for cycling with 51 miles of marked bike lanes.

Living

Weston is home to Fortune 500 companies, locally owned retail businesses, eateries and many other enterprises. It also has the lowest combined property taxes, municipal taxes and fees in Broward County.

Weston’s natural surroundings are inspiring. It borders the Florida Everglades and the city manages more than 2,200 acres of wetland preserves. Weston overall is strikingly landscaped, with thoroughfares lined with Royal Palms and city entry signs surrounded by lush foliage.

The median home cost in Weston is $290,100 (2012). The city has a number of very desirable residential areas including:

  • Weston Hills, which is a community of distinctive single-family homes with amenities like pools, tennis courts and club houses adjoining two gorgeous, 18-hole championship golf courses.
  • Savanna is another community of single-family homes, villas, townhomes and condos ranging from 1000 square feet to 12000 square feet; prices naturally vary greatly based on size and amenities.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Weston public schools are administered by Broward County Public Schools, which manages 6 elementary schools, two middle schools and Cypress Bay High School; the city also runs the Imagine Charter School. Private school options include Sagemont School (pre-K to grade 12) and Weston Christian Academy (pre-K to grade 8).

Weston is very fortunate to offer remarkable healthcare options. World-class healthcare is provided by the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Broward Health Weston and the Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center. A large number of hospitals and specialty practitioners are available in the greater Fort Lauderdale-Miami metropolitan area.

Weston is served by Interstate 75 (I-595 east of Weston), known as the Everglades Parkway, which passes by the city’s eastern and northern borders. Florida 27 runs along its western side. For air travel, Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is 21 miles away while the Miami International Airport is approximately 30 miles away, typically a 45-minute drive.
